The surface bust be clean and dry (mosture content under 16%). The relative humidity must not exeed 80 %.
Treat knots with knotting varnish. Prime unpainted and porous surfaces with a mixture that contains 1 part turpentine, 4-6 parts boiled linseedoil and 3 parts paint. When painting outdoors also unboiled linseed oil can be used.
Fill holes and cracks with linseed oil putty or filler and sand the filled parts. Prime filled parts. Add 5-10 % turpentine in the second layer of paint. The last layer is painted unthinned. Drying time between coats 2-3 days. Warmth and good ventilation speeds the drying time. When using unboiled linseed oil the drying time is 4-5 days.
When painting indoors, add 1 % (approx. 10 ml / l paint) drier in the paint to speed up the drying process. For higher gloss and better levellng 5-10 % of linseed stand oil can be added in the top coat.
Previously painted surfaces:
Clean surfaces with suitable cleaning agent according to manufacturer’s instructions. Remove loose, flaking paint with a scraper and sand hard, glossy painted surfaces matt. Remove sanding dust.
Prime untreated and bare wood as with untreated surfaces.
When painting indoors, add 1 % (approx. 10 ml / l paint) drier in the paint to speed up the drying process. For higher gloss and better levellng 5-10 % of linseed stand oil can be added in the top coat.
Maintenance:
Painted surfaces can be cleaned soon after finishing lightly with a soft brush. The product achieves its final hardness and durability after one month under normal conditions, therefore the surfaces must be handled with care during a couple of weeks. The surfaces can be cleaned earliest after approx. 1 month after painting with a neutral (pH 6-8) dish washing solution. Rinse the surface carefully. NOTE: Do not use strong washing agents as they can damage the painted surface.
Thinning:
Linseed oil paint is thinned with boiled or unboiled linseed oil for priming. If solvent is used, genuine turpentine is recommended. Also white spirit can be used.
Coverage:
Sawn wood substrates approx 10-14 m2 / l / coat, planed wood substrates approx. 14-17 m2 / l / coat. The coverage depends of the substrate and the methods of the painter. The paint must be applied with a stiff brush in thin layers.
General instructions:
– Mix a sufficient amount of paint in order to avoid colour differences.
– Stir the colour well before painting
– Paint in thin layers as too thick coats can run, dry very slowly or wrinkle.
– All coats must be completely dry before applying the next coat.
– Use a brush with natural bristles of good quality. The bristles must be stiff enough in order to be able to paint in thin coats. Do not use a roller.
– Linseed oil paint can yellow in dark spaces (for instance inside of a cabinet).
– Treat also end parts of panels when painting outside.
– Prime metal parts with anti-corrosive primer before painting with linseed oil paint.
Risk of spontaneus combustion:
Porous material such as rags can self combust due to the oxidation process of linseed oil. This kind of material must be soaked in water and placed in a jar with lid. Rags can also be dried opened or burned immediately.
